About this piece
On the metal world, height means something different — there's no gravity to speak of the way the old stories describe it, but this figure still leaps like there is, arms stretched toward a small hoop mounted high on a slender rod, forever caught at the top of his jump. The younger Wiremen used to gather just to watch him go up again and again, never quite the same way twice. This handcrafted wire art piece is worked in a warm gold-toned wire, body coiled into a mid-air shooting pose with one arm extended toward a small white hoop and backboard fixed to a tall brass-finish stand. The whole scene sits on a dark rectangular wood base, giving it the footprint of a tiny court. The bend of his knees and the reach of his arm were both shaped freehand, giving the figure real sense of motion despite being completely still. As with every piece in the collection, no molds were used, making this a genuine one-of-a-kind wire sculpture rather than a stamped copy. It suits a sports fan's desk, a game room shelf, or a coach's office equally well. For anyone who loves basketball, this collectible wire figurine doubles as a handmade metal figurine and a genuinely unique wire art gift.
